Team Associated RC10T #ASC7002
The prototype of this truck, RC10ST debuted at the 1991 Florida Winter Nationals. Cliff Let would take first place with his prototype truck at that race! Team Associated launched the production truck RC10T that same year. The RC10T is based off of the RC10 Buggy Platform with some changes to adapt the platform to stadium truck configuration. Wider suspension arms, shock towers, and longer shocks were some of the changes. The RC10T was available in three kits during its run: #7001 Truck, #7035 Team Truck, & #7011 Sport truck. #7001 was the original launch kit with bearings, stealth transmission, and hard anodized shocks. It was later replaced in 1992 by #7035 which was basically the same truck but carried the designation of “Team” as Team Associated was launching a sport version of this truck at a lower cost point. The Sport Truck #7011 released in 1992 ditched the bearings for bushings & hard anodized shocks for the gold shocks. Other manufacturers were doing similar offerings. Kits at a lower price point to lower the barrier to entry of the sport. The sport truck could be upgraded down the road as your skill / budget allowed. The RC10T would see production until 1996 when it was replaced with the RC10T2.
Fast forward to this kit #ASC7002 released in 2024 as a tribute to the original RC10T. Kit includes the stealth transmission, bushings, gold shocks, and the banned narrow front wheels & tires from the prototype RC10ST. I think this is an odd execution. The part number is one sequence number later than the original truck but doesn't include any of the parts that made it special like the bearings and hard anodized shocks. Essentially this kit is a Sport Truck version, so the part number should be #7012. I’m beyond grateful that Team Associated released this kit. Hopefully in the future they will release a version with bearings and hard anodized shocks.
